From legend to screen: my journey creating a dst
The digital storytelling project about the Rakhandar legend has been an incredible journey of discovery and creativity. It's been a fascinating process, diving into the rich tapestry of Goan folklore and bringing the story to life in a new, digital format. It's been a journey that's taken me from the bustling streets of Navelim to the serene landscapes of the interior, meeting with locals and hearing their stories firsthand.
From the very beginning, I was captivated by the idea of the Rakhandar, these protective spirits who guard the boundaries of the village. I felt a strong connection to the story, perhaps because I'm from Goa myself, and I understand the deep-rooted importance of these traditions. I wanted to honor the stories that have been passed down through generations, while also adding my own unique perspective.
My first step was to delve into the history and origins of the legend. I spent hours researching online, reading old books, and talking to local elders who had firsthand knowledge of the Rakhandar. I was fascinated by the way the story intertwined with the landscape of Goa, the local farming practices, and the unique beliefs of the people. The story of Pauleshwar, the Rakhandar who provided water to the neighboring village of Kudnya, was particularly moving. It spoke of the spirit of generosity and cooperation that exists within the community, even in times of hardship.
Once I had a solid understanding of the legend, I started thinking about how to translate it into a digital format. I wanted to create something visually engaging and interactive, something that would capture the imagination of viewers and leave a lasting impression. I explored different storytelling techniques, experimenting with images, videos, sound effects, and animation. I wanted to use these tools to create a multi-sensory experience that would immerse viewers in the world of the Rakhandar.
The process of creating this digital story has been a true collaboration between my own creativity and the wealth of knowledge and stories that have been shared with me. It's been a journey of learning, discovery, and creative expression, and I'm incredibly proud of the final product. I hope that this digital story will inspire others to explore the rich cultural heritage of Goa and to appreciate the stories that have shaped our communities for generations.
The editing process has been a crucial part of this journey. It's been about taking all the raw materials I've gathered—the research, the interviews, the images, the sounds—and shaping them into a cohesive and compelling narrative. I've spent countless hours refining the script, trimming the fat, and ensuring that every element serves the story in the best possible way. I've experimented with different visual styles, sound effects, and transitions, striving to create a truly immersive experience. It's been a challenge, but also an incredibly rewarding process. I'm constantly learning and growing as a storyteller, and I'm excited to see where this journey takes me next.
The group members have been instrumental in bringing this project to life. Their diverse perspectives and talents have enriched the storytelling process in countless ways. We've had lively discussions about the story's themes, the best ways to visually represent the Rakhandar, and the most effective ways to engage viewers. We've also relied on each other's expertise in areas like research, writing, editing, and animation. The collaboration has been truly inspiring, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with such a talented and dedicated group.
